Not only is every fashion girl (thanks, Who What Wear) wearing hand painted jewelry, but there’s a good reason! Hand-painted jewelry is on-trend for a mil other reasons. How many etsy or local artisans are you so in love with? The vibe you get by making a purchase, knowing that it was created by hand, is where it’s at. Giving back to society. Fair trade. Showing support for artists versus mass-producing machines. Hand-painted jewelry = Fashion done like a boss!
Discovered a gem, ladies. A jewelry label inspired by intricate and detailed folk art from dozens of different countries around the world. Each piece of jewelry has a story – and each one is unique. No more “Twinning” fashion moments. MAEI Jewelry.
You will not-even-believe how the jewelry from MAEI is created. Take a seat. Listen to this… The artists who create each jewelry piece start out by chopping a ball of wood. Ahem – chopping a ball of wood. Next, they rub those ball of wood pieces with sandpaper until smooth. Next, they round them to make them the exact size for the type of jewelry being created. This DIY is serious. Once that chopping and smoothing and sizing of wood is done, they paint EACH bead in a base color. After that – the beads are then passed on to a master artisan. These artisans paint a design, by hand, on each bead. EACH bead. HAND painted. Not done yet – there’s more. Once each bead has been hand painted by the master artisan, they are varnished.
Fact: each bead takes around 3 hours to create.
Math Pop Quiz: If you are wearing a MAEI bracelet with 13 beads on it – how many hours did it take to create?
Answer: The bracelet took over 40 hours to create. By hand.
Inspiration of each (obviously unique) piece of MAEI jewelry come from travels and visits from all around the world.
