Why it’s surprising to me that soup cans are getting a makeover is beyond me. Why not? Everything else is packaged pretty, so why not soup cans? Its just… souper! (couldn’t resist!)
The limited edition Campbell’s tomato soup cans celebrate the 50th anniversary of Andy Warhol’s 1962 iconic artwork, “32 Campbell’s Soup Cans.” Warhol’s “15 minutes of fame” are obviously still going strong! The trendy soup cans, sold exclusively at Target (yet another reason why I adore Tar’get!), come in these Warhol-esque styled cans.
Here are the cans from Target – As I snapped a photo I got a few giggles from passer-bys, but I couldn’t resist. It IS art. Please people… take a moment and appreciate the art.
Wondering why Warhol chose to pain Campbells soup cans? Simple. Warhol said that he ” used to have the same (Campbell’s soup) lunch every day for 20 years.”
Here is the original soup can art by Warhol:
Although Campbells never paid Warhol for this fab publicity, they definitely are loving the effects! And who wouldn’t? And what I love especially is that now I can own a Warhol for under a dollar! Not bad…
Think you’ll get a can? And if you do, will you eat the contents or will you put the can on display on your mantle? Decisions, decisions.
Ok, time to shop!
