Inspiration: “You’re Never Too Old to Become Younger” (Mae West). Right? If wrinkled was not one of those things you wanted to be when you grew up, stay tuned. Considering Botox or facial fillers? Wondering about wrinkles? Here are 5 things about wrinkles that may help guide your decision…
1. How Do We Get Wrinkles?
- Wrinkles are determined by genetics
- The environment contributes to wrinkles (city smog, sun…)
- Sugar destroys the collagen and elastin in your skin
- Sleeping dominantly on one side contributes to wrinkles and loss of collagen/elastin
- The older you get, the more collagen you naturally lose
2. How to Get Rid of Wrinkles?
- Naturally:
- Avoid sun exposure
- Don’t smoke
- Get plenty of sleep
- Sleep on your back
- Eat more salmon and soy
- Skip the caffeine
- With (professional) Medical Spa Treatments
- Botox (The injection relaxes the muscle underneath the wrinkle, so the skin on top lies smooth)
- Facial Fillers (The injection fills the wrinkles to create an even surface)
- Microneedling (tiny needles from the SkinPen create punctures in the top layer of your skin to promote collagen growth – remember my posts HERE and HERE and HERE?)

Think you’ll give it a try?
My issue is that I spent thousands of hours in the sun when I was younger. I live on the coast, so even to this day, we are at the beach all summer long. Now I know better and wear sunscreen, but I didn’t for sooooo many years. Ugh!
I am far too chicken to have a needle that close to my face! I can see the difference, though, so I would probably try it. I am going to look to see if there is someone close by who does this!
I am wishing i could get botox but now I’m not too sure. I don’t have tons of wrinkles yet.. but i’d really like to go and get it done!
Growing up in the south, with a grandmother who loved at the beach, we spent a lot of time in the sun. When I was growing up, I was always slathered in sun screen because I have fair skin. Now that I live at the beach, we see sun all the time, and I’m not going to avoid it. I just protect my skin with sunscreen and large hats. So far so good. I did inherit great genetics too though. For those that do get premature wrinkles this is a great option.
Wow. I haven’t really seen the before and afters before but these obviously make a difference! I really try to make sure i always wear SPF under my makeup whenever I’m out for the day and at the beach I fully lather myself with sunscreen and wear a hat. I’m terrified of the ageing process but it is good to know that these things actually work and are effective! So maybe I don’t need to be so worried afterall!
I had no idea that salmon and soy can help prevent wrinkles. These are useful tips!
WOW your so brave! There’s no way I could ever do botox, I am too terrified of needles. I think it’s great to do things for yourself that boosts your confidence and makes you feel good.
Ack! I enjoy so much sugar and caffeine and sleep on one side (when I actually get sleep.) I’m finally learning to avoid sun, at least on my face. Botox may be in my future.
I was recently telling my husband I think it might be time for me to consider botox. I’m not sure I am brave enough yet though! It looks like you have found an amazing place to go! In the meantime I do try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Wow you can really see a different in your before and after pics!! Now that I am older and know better I do my best to protect my skin, but it seems like there are some things that we just cannot protect our skin against.
I am in my late twenties and I am starting to worry about wrinkles and when I might start getting them. I really need to get on my skincare game asap x
Wrinkles have never really bothered me. I have to say that Botox scares me. I don’t think that anyone will change my mind on this. I do see the improvement in your face, but I think I will have to pass on it.
It’s a nice treat for yourself to go and get botox. I think it’s a something that you should consider as you age. It will benefit you in so many ways. I like that you shared where you got yours done, it’s nice to know where to go when the time comes.
I’m glad to know that I’m doing some things to avoid getting wrinkles. I’m not really too worried about having them, I kind of feel they are a part of aging we should embrace. That being said, if I ever do feel bothered by them too much, I have options to get rid of them.
I think this is something I would consider when I am older but I had no idea about some of the contributing wrinkle factors! I will have to cut out the sugar I think haha as that is probably going to be my downfall!
I know a lot of people who have gotten Botox and wished that they had read this article. It is so important to know things like this before we do things to our skin.
I am bookmarking this post! I don’t think I’m that far off from wanting to try Botox for the first time myself!
I’ve been so lazy about dealing with my skin and I know I’ll regret it! These are some great things to know about wrinkles that i didn’t know! I willhave to look into this more!
Avoiding sun exposure while living in Arizona is tough but it’s so important to take good care of your skin!
I wish they taught kids how to take care of their skin early. I waited way too long to learn and now I’m much older and starting a lot later in live.
You listed some great tips that I didn’t know about. Fillers and Botox are really popular! I can see myself using it some day.
As some one in my 20s, I’m trying my best to take as much care of my skin as I can. I may consider something like Botox in the future, will just have to see.
I wish I would have knows what causes wrinkles when I was younger! Then again I probably wouldn’t have listened lol… thank god for things like Botox to save the day!
Looks like it does work! I would love to try it. I am starting to get those laugh lines!
I think we all wish that we knew things about wrinkles (or cared when we were younger). This is such great info!
I haven’t heard about this but it really looks Interesting I’m gonna save this and try botox for the first time! Glad you share this with us
