Once again a retro vibe and retro styles seem to be making a comeback. And why not? We all loved them in the past just as we are likely to love them all over again now.
Rocking Retro Fashion
Fashion has always been something that has seen waves of nostalgia and the revival of the classic styles of the past, whether we loved or loathed them the first or even second (or third!) time around. This year in 2017 be ready to dust off your oversized blazer to get set for an 80’s revival. #Truth. Not one or two, but THREE of Vogue’s 7 fashion trends set to kickstart 2017 are 80’s classics. Like what? The iconic 80’s power suits and slouchy tailored suits (flashback to Miami Vice) are high on the list for a comeback with several designers featuring them in their collections. Vogue is even predicting that nylon anoraks are set to return after Demna Gvasalia included one in his debut show for Balenciaga. The third 80’s throwback style is the cone heel thanks to Phoebe Philo at Céline.
But wait – these are not the only 80’s styles set to (possibly) hit our wardrobes. Layering of activewear (holla to Olivia Newton John’s Physical video and Flashdance) are set to get us up and dancing. Embroidery and appliqued denim (loving this trend!) brings back memories of (80’s pop band) New Kids on the Block. And let’s not forget the classic off the shoulder tops and dresses iconized by Madonna and Princess Diana – again, all from the 80’s. This off the shoulder top from last summer is still on major rotation!
Ok – so maybe not every-single-one of these fashion trends will make it into your wardrobe this year but it IS guaranteed that this year your style will be influenced by the 80’s revival. Embrace your inner 80’s persona of Cyndi Lauder, Blondie or Sue Ellen Ewing and rock that 80’s style, ladies!
Playing Fave Childhood Games
Don’t you swoon a bit over the nostalgia of board games, garden games or even arcade games that we grew up with? As adults (admit it) we still love those games from our childhood and will still play them given even half a chance, right? A fave are retro parties to get everyone reminiscing.
What were some of your favorite games? What about Super Mario Bros, Pac-man or Pokémon? All have seen a serious comeback. Let’s talk about Pokémon Go, shall we? Only one of the biggest crazes in the summer of 2016, seeing over 100 million downloads. Pokémon Go had all ages of “gamers” from all across the world on their feet (almost tripping over each other!) exploring their neighborhoods to catch as many Pokémon as possible! Interacting with augmented reality through their iPhones for the very first time (for most). Not only are these retro games iconic, but getting a MAJOR upgrade to attract new generations of gamers into loving these characters.
Remember my post HERE where I reminded you that even bingo is making a huge comeback. Yes, “bingo!” In fact, bingo halls are no longer they the hang-out of only grannies. All it took to make bingo glittery and exciting was the Internet and real-life versions to attract a whole new audience of all ages. Bingo has even transitioned into the online gaming world and, of course, smartphone apps are also a huge part of the world of online bingo. Bingo sites like Sun Bingo offer dedicated Android and iOS apps as well as joining incentives, bonuses and interestingly themed games – including Deal Or No Deal.
Technology going backwards? Whaaaat?
Who would have predicted that the much loved, but very dated, Nokia 3310 from waaaaaay back in 2000 would make a comeback in 2017? Here’s why – at the time, the Nokia 3310 seemed advanced (I mean… advanced?) and fashionable. But, this minimalist handset is truly making a comeback even with the competition of all of our smartphones. If you missed out (on either launch), no worries. It’s due to be launched again later this year, and (bonus) updated somewhat with improved battery life, color screen and camera, and a new edition of Snake – with a slightly updated look to match. All the nostalgia and swooning of the past makes this phone majorly on demand. Interested? Want to secure yours? Pre-registration interest in the Nokia 3310 is breaking records according to Techradar so it’s not just a bit of retro novelty. Real demand is there. For reals.
Whether you buy the 80’s (inspired) clothes, play these games or purchase the Nokia 3310 it’s highly likely that you will be participating in this year’s retro revival of beloved items and styles of the past in some way or another.
What Revivals Excite you for 2017?
What is your favorite 80’s style or game?
I love vintage…anything. I am a child of the 80’s and I am into as much stuff from that era as I can get my hands on 🙂
I love vintage-inspired stuff, but I’m not a fan of the 80s. I’m a child of the 80s and it just feels so lame to me. Maybe because I’ve lived through it and it just doesn’t feel glamorous to me? But, I’m loving those headphones!
I can’t believe how many things from back in the days are making their way to the new generation now. I think it is very odd that anyone would want to go backwards in technology for their cell phone. And I thought I was the weird one who still had a non-smart Blackberry knock off type of phone that I use for my cell phone
I heard that Noika 3310 is coming back onto the market. That is soo cool. i found my old gamesboy the other day and I had a fun game of tetris. xx
I have such mixed feelings when things come back into style, lol. I’m not too disappointed by the return of my favorite video games though.
I know that vintage things always come back and I like some of them but I get tired of remakes of great movies always getting made. Thanks for the little trip back to the 80s that off the shoulder look still works.
I never saw myself as someone who liked 80’s fashion but I like how elements of it like the off the shoulder trend has been updated for modern fashion. I like your espadrilles x
I loved the 80s big hair! I loved seeing those bangs all poofed out and perfect. Bring back hairspray and big hair!
First it was the 80’s with the chokers and the jumpers and now it’s the 80’s! How awesome! I love the off shoulder tops, they’re comfy and perfect for the season! I’ve heard about the infamous 3310! I’ve seen it too.
I wish music of the 80’s would make a comeback! I play 80’s music on pandora in the car and man it was so darn good!
If you’re feeling nostalgic for Pac Man there is a cartoon on Netflix! It is pretty entertaining 🙂 Love the poms on your beach bag BTW!
I feel like the Nokia is perfect for kids! Like, kids don’t need a smart phone… they just need to be able to call in case of an emergency! I will be that mom who gets something like that for my kids when she is older lol
I love the games coming back! I miss some of the simple but awesome games from when I was little. I also don’t mind SOME of the fashion trends as long as the hair styles don’t come back 😉
Oh I really like that phone case and the headphones. I have a iPhone 7 plus though. So most cute stuff doesn’t work with it.
I love all the games that are coming back!! I swear everything from the 80’s and 90’s is SO popular right now!
Hmm…the 80s totally make me think of hair. I really hope those styles don’t make a comeback. I believe the mullet and big curls were trendy then. No thank you! LOL! I do also love playing bingo. Brings back great memories of my grandma. But it is a good game for all ages to play. So it would be a great family night out of playing bingo.
I grew up with an 80’s obsessed mother so I love everything about it! I love the movies, the off the shoulder tops, and all of it!
How fun! I always love seeing what old styles come back again. Oh, and your pink and white outfit is adorable, and the bag with the flowers couldn’t be cuter!!!
I think checkers was my favorite game growing up because I hated chess and sucked at it. So I found checkers as cool way to be strategic without too much thinking.
