Save the planet. Buy upcycled clothing. Its sustainable, better on your budget and unique.
♡ Ready for This? ♡
According to the USA E.P.A, more than 15 million tons of used textile waste is generated each year in the United States. To help lessen this growing burden, Emily Roggenburk has created a new line of one of a kind apparel that repurposes pre-loved garments from the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Local love, y’all! Each piece is cleaned up and recreated to be made custom by Emily for a one a kind piece that no one else in town will have. Because twinning isnt always winning…
Emily and I have been friends for years… (remember the posts about her photography and designs here and here) so another partnership was in order.
♡ Introducing…♡
The Glam Karen & Emily Roggenburk upcycled clothing and accessories! And yes, our upcycled items are officially open for business here! <happy dance…>
♡ The Process ♡
Heading out to local thrift stores, Emily and I scouted out the best of the best apparel items to upcycle into fancy-schmancy one of a kind chic pieces.
- On the Hunt: What could work? What might not? Grabbing any and all possible fashion finds is step one.
- Decisions, Decisions: Narrowing down the pieces to select items that create a cohesive look, including with accessories.
- Winner/Winner: Checking out at the register with our top choices to create a new upcycled wardrobe and begin the transformation in Emily’s studio with new images, sayings, designs and more!
♡ In-Studio Upcycling ♡
Once the wardrobe and accessory items are purchased from a vintage or thrift store, they go back to Emily’s studio for the magic to happen! Starting with mood boards, Emily and I used those boards as inspiration to create a summer vibe for these repurposed pieces.

What do you think about the “NEW” upcycled white denim jacket? From basic to beachy! Emily added on the “Salty Hair” words to the back of the jacket for a modern, fresh feel. But there’s more…
♡ Shop ’til you Drop ♡
Check out the rest of the NEW upcycled line for purchase HERE at Emily‘s site. But fair warning, each piece is unique and there is only ONE of each. Aaaaaaand, they sell out FAST.
Do you own any upcycled clothing or accessories? Do you thrift shop?

What a great idea! And a nice way to not only use up old clothes, but to also give yourself a piece that no one else will have. I need to try this I think. find some old jackets and give them a new life!

YES! That’s so true! I just loved all the items. I love that you get one piece to call your own and won’t see it on anyone else’s wardrobe!
We love the concept of upcycled things. It promotes sustainability. And it requires immense creativity! Shocking to see those numbers of the textile waste generated in US each year! My mother has been super active in her younger years to up cycle clothes and transform them into bed covers and blankets!
Your mother’s an amazing woman! Yes, I love that we’re helping lower the number of waste by doing this. It’s such a smart move!
Idea of up cycling is amazing. Would love to do experiments with my old clothes kept in closet
Isn’t it? I just think it’s a great way to help with all those waste! That’s an awesome idea! But feel free to check out the pieces here! Linked it for you guys!
I love these! I’m a huge fan of upcycling. It’s better for the environment and your wallet, and you usually end up with something super cute!
That’s exactly why I love it! Thanks for dropping by!
That’s really a nice concept. Even I thought about it didn’t really had funds for starting one. That really good way to recycle clothes.
I think it’s awesome to be able to do this so you can minimize the textile waste, definitely a great idea!
I love the idea of upcycled and repurposed clothing. This method of salvaging old clothing would work wonders on reinventing and bringing life back to old vintage and retro threads.
I am a huge fan as well. It’s a great way to save old clothes and save on shopping for new ones! I love it!
I have gotten a few cute things at the thrift shop before. I usually go there for stuff for my kids, but sometimes grab something for me 😉
I think it’s awesome how you can save money while getting awesome items!
Upcycling is a great idea! It would be interesting to do, especially from the money-saving aspect, and the outcome would be unique!
Yes, that’s very true. I just love the concept and how it allows us to save on waste and get unique items!
Oh my gosh, this is such an awesome, thrifty and fun idea. Take the vintage and make it into something even more unique!
Yes! Definitely! That’s exactly what this is all about and I love it!
Upcycling is such a great idea. I don’t do it as often as I should. Never hurts to save while getting some cool stuff, and helping the planet
I know! Yes, that’s so true. It’s definitely a great way to reduce waste and save some money!
I am a frequent shopper in thrift stores. They are a gold mine of wonderful pre-loved items, not only clothes but other useful stuff too. I like your idea of upcycling. The jacket turned out to be a real fashion winner!
That’s awesome and such a great way to get unique clothing items without having to spend too much! Glad you love my jacket! Thanks for the visit!
Love this! I will be checking back on her site to see what’s new. A fun way to keep clothes around, reusing is so important!
That’s awesome! She has loads of stuff that people will definitely love! It’s such a great way to help limit waste too.
My wife would dearly love both the concept and designs here. Forwarding this post to her now! You will see her here soon:)
I’m sure she will! Glad I linked to the site so she can check out the items available there too!
I think buying new clothes everytime is not necessary. If we could only take a good look at what we have in our closets, add a little creativity, and play around with accessories, we’d have a “new” outfit every time! I do visit thrift stores too. Sometimes you get really lucky and find great clothes there.
YES! That’s very well said. If people did that, we’d have a little less waste and more unique items in our closets! Don’t forget to check out Emily’s website!
What a great idea! And a nice and creative way to not only use up old clothes. You can always find something cool in the thrift stores!
Yes, definitely! I just love it and it’s something that you can easily do at home as well.
This is one of the best ideas I have come across lately. I really believe that it takes a truly creative person to up-cycle clothes, and you did an amazing job with that jacket.
That’s so true! I think Emily does and awesome job with the clothes. That jacket is just a sample of what items you can have when you check out her store!
This is such a cool idea! I love it!
Thanks!
I love the idea of upcycling! There is too much waste in this world and what a great way to make something old something new again.
Me too! That’s exactly why I think people should do it more!
This is a cool idea. And it teaches one of many lessons and that includes saving and not splurging. I cant remember the last time i shopped for clothes!
That’s so true! It’s so nice to be able to save and help lessen the textile waste that we produce!
Wow thats a genius idea, love the concept so cool plus it helps the enviroment as well
That’s right! It’s something people should really support!
The idea of up-cycling clothes is awesome! I think it will become more popular with time.
I agree! I think so too and I can’t wait for that time to come!
I wish I have the talent and the eye to make an awesome upcycled apparel, like what you did. This is awesome!
