I would put money down that you are thinking this post is about a MEGA major spot that I love….such as somewhere magical on the Cape or Italy or Hawaii. Nope. It’s not. Its about finding your escape…your FAVORITE escape… right in front of you.
It’s no secret that I am all about Christmas. I love it all. The songs, the decorating, the excitement, the gift-giving…. you name it, I love it. For me, my favorite escape is step one…. getting the tree.
The smell of the pine, the crunch of the snow under our feet and the strapping of the tree onto our Jeep all makes me incredibly happy.
The mental happiness escape continues as we bring the tree into our home and my adorbs kitty, Moxie, gets to check it out. Not sure that she was 100% confident that a tree in the house was a smart idea by us humans, but she is always a trooper.
Sometimes we just need a reminder to take snapshots of life – especially those times that make us feel the happiest. For me…right now… it’s picking out a tree to get into the winter/holiday mode. It brings me a crazy amount of happiness. What brings you happiness right now? Not sure? Then this is a great time to discover that. Make it a priority. What makes you smile? Find that and you have found an escape.
Even as we were setting up the decorations, I had to giggle when I saw this cutey kitty delaying our process.
Throughout the entire evening, we simply enjoyed each step. We didn’t look at decorating as something to be done – or something to be “checked off” our list of things to do. It was our fun activity. It was our escape. It was what we celebrated.
Here’s the point. Enjoy all moments. Try not to look at moments as “jobs to be done” but instead as memories to be made. Laugh and smile and feel lightness in your heart. That’s what makes it worthwhile. That, my fab friends, is what makes it a favorite escape.
You do real trees tooo…. OMG I love love love Christmas and the smell of the trees, cinnamon, fireplaces and all that goodness. I am guilty of putting my tree up early so I can enjoy it longer hahah…. Glad I am not alone in the madness. http://www.legacychangers.org
Such a good message, Karen! I’m going to decorate this weekend and like you, I enjoy the process! It’s part of my holiday traditions :), but there are definitely other times where I need to take a step by and live the moment instead of just checking it off the to do list. Your cat is gorgeous, btw!
Hi Karen! this post was absolutely amazing! It’s so true that we can find our paradise just around the corner and we have to know how to appreciate these little things in life 🙂 Thanks for sharing this and I love your cat!
