If you’re anything like me in regards to pain tolerance, then it’s probs safe to say that you might be intimidated by a “facial” with the word NEEDLE in it. Spa-like tranquility vibes might dash out the window while you’re wondering whyyyyyy you would voluntarily elect to get something done with needles involved. Right? So – Why is Microneedling THE new buzzword? Because it works.
What is Microneedling?
The “needling” micro-punctures of the application (during this 20 minute-ish process) basically reboots your body’s own natural collagen production. What does that even mean? Welp, from those microscopic pin/needle pricks from the SkinPen tool, your skin believes that it is damaged and needing repair. It’s tricking your skin. Here’s the #Science behind Microneedling: no matter what size of “wound” you get, your skin reacts the same. SooOOOoO, when you get micro-punctures (itty-bitty-teeny-tiny wounds), your skin starts the healing process. This gets your OWN collagen movin’ and groovin’ and your skin’s texture is naturally improved. Voila.
Let’s Chat – the GOOD, the BAD…and the UGLY?
What’s GOOD?
- Obvious: it’s your body’s own natural collagen production to heal the skin on its own.
- Huh? Those micro-pricks trigger your skin to heal itself – on its own. Boom – the NATURAL process happens.! That means that your own skin begins producing your own collagen.
- With this natural collagen, you get a more youthful and glowing appearance.
What’s BAD?
Do you have any of these “BAD” skin conditions? Acne scars, small bumps because of clogged pores, divots or uneven texture from aging? Microneedling can smooth out your skin and fill in those “bad” spots to gain an even texture and even glow.
What’s UGLY?
Part 1: Could get real ugly real quick if you don’t know where to get your Microneedling done. So, where should you get Microneedling done, you ask? Certainly NOT at your house and NOT a par-tay at someone else’s house. Adding to the NOT list (if you want professional results), never from a “kit” or a DIY or anything that does not include a nurse practitioner or licensed esthetician. Now’s the time to troll around online for your research while finding a licensed practitioner. Check all reviews, ask questions and be BEYOND confident with your choice.
Part 2: Did you catch my InstaStory on Instagram after I had treatment #2 done? If you didn’t, follow me HERE to join in on my silliness… Anyway, the other part that can be in the “ugly” category is the mild sunburned appearance immediately following the Microneedling treatment.
Try to look past my “deer in headlights” selfie look (below) to notice the slight (blotchy) sunburn appearance. As the day of my Microneedling progressed, the “sunburn” became a tad redder but was gone by the next morning. Of course, the redness and after-effects will vary by individual.
Microneedling takes anywhere from 3-6 treatments, depending upon the severity of your skin’s condition. Typically the Microneedling is done once a month during the entire process. Once your entire treatment is completed, you can return for touch-ups.
Here is my personal progress from no Microneedling to 1 treatment to 2 treatments. I have 1 more treatment to go… and I am LOVING the easy process and the visible results.
Stay tuned for my FINAL treatment happening in about a month to see the overall transition…
What are YOUR biggest skin concerns that you’d LOVE to improve?
The results are definitely visible! Wow. I have actually never even heard of this procedure before, but I am definitely interested in giving it a try now.
My Mom gets this done and loves it. I haven’t tried it yet, but your results are incredible. You can really see the difference! I might have to take the dive and go for it.
You really should, Kim. Just do your homework about WHERE you get it done prior to your appointment. Only go to the best places, like my place in Cleveland!
Love micro needling. I’m 4 or 5 treatments in. As a “side effect,” the exfoliation has completely cleared up my acne, too!
Isnt it incredible? If you go to ANEW MedSpa you get a GlamKaren discount….
I have never heard of this treatment. I admit my skin has taken a toll over the years and I need to get it back on track to looking healthy again.
That turned out so great! My almost 18 year old is going to have some slight acne scaring on her cheeks, this seems like it would be perfect for her.
It really is incredible. The results are amazing and its the easiest procedure!
Oh wow! I didn’t even know that microneedling exists and its benefits. Your results are amazing! I’m not sure I’m going to try this though.
It is looking great so far! I am excited to see the final results. I had never heard of microneedling, but I totally need to learn more about it.
You can already see a massive reduction in the skins texture and your skin looks amazing! I just watched the video you were brave x
Honestly, even I’m WOW’d at the results. The texture is a ton better.. and the procedure is simple. Honestly, doesnt hurt that much at all and its quick!
Wow!! The after pictures are amazing. I should let my mom know about this. Thanks for the post. Enjoyed reading it.
I had honestly had never heard of micro-needling, but with the results you show it makes me want to try it! And having your own collagen get working sounds really good to me! Thanks for the info!
The results definitely show!…you’re braver than me with it though…the big question I have – does it hurt?
haha – not that brave, Laura! Its not very painful at all (more uncomfortable) and its quick. The dentist is worse!
Great results!!!

This look really good and the result is amazing. I’m wondering does it hurt?
It is mildly “UGH” on the forehead. The rest of the face isnt an issue. And, the entire procedure takes about 20 minutes. Super quick. If it hurt I wouldnt go back for more! 🙂
You can see real improvement in your skin after the second treatment. I’ve never heard of microneedling but it makes sense, I think I’d be a little apprehensive though x
WOW! You can really see the results in the after pictures. I’ve never considered doing this or having this done to my skin before. I think it makes sense that it triggers healing. It’s really effective!
Wow the results are amazing! I have never heard of micro needling before, I certainly do learn something everyday 🙂
This sounds really interesting. I have never heard of this before, but now I want to look into it more lol. My biggest skin issue has always been blackheads, no matter what I just cant get them all!
What an interesting post. Not many bloggers write about the microneedling topic. Love how significant your results are so far. You can definitely see the difference.
But I think I’d be a chicken to try this technique, as I’m not a big fan of needles in any form.
Great post though.
Wow! Your results are incredible. I had heard of this before but I had no idea what it was. My face could actually really use this.
I’ve heard about microneedling but I’m not sure if I would give it a try. Not because of the needle aspect but because I have the most sensitive skin. I would be worried about how long it would take for my skin to heal. The results are amazing so it might be worth the try.
Wow, I never knew this process existed! What amazing results you got after that second treatment.
Seems like it’s working very well for you. The results are pretty good.
oh my goodness!! I’ve done this before but I didn’t realize that I would have to get it done a second time for the results to really show. You look AMAZING! Goodbye photoshop!!
You’re results look amazing. I’m still unsure if I would definitely look into more info about this.
wow I’ve never heard of this but definitely need to check it out! My skin is awful at the moment and this may be just the trick I am missing!
I had a co-worker who was going through this to remove acne scars and it worked perfectly for him. The science behind it is so interesting
I am too scared to get any of such tings done as I dont know what the long term implications are. Your skin definitely looks better after 2 treatments.
I have never even heard of this before and the results are amazing. I need to look up where I can find someone to do this near me.
You freaked me out at “needling!” Though I admit I didn’t know much about it until now! THat might change my mind!
Wow, I definitely would consider this. I just love the results I have seen that people have gotten.
It’s amazing how they are able to use these techniques to improve your skin’s appearance. I would love to try this on my skin.
I have been hearing so much about micro needling! Your skin looks awesome!
OMG i need this! I am so terrible with beauty stuff! Your skin looks amazing!
