Real talk: You’re applying your makeup all wrong. Here’s how to FINALLY do it the right way to get that glow and look natural.
Wake up and makeup… or at least apply some lip gloss and mascara. Your makeup routine might be more complicated than it needs to be, and that’s making yourself look older and less vibrant than you could.
💄Top 5 Makeup Mistakes (& how to avoid making them!)
Best intentions. But, makeup mistakes happen. Which of these are you guilty of doing?
Brushes: If you do clean your brushes, congrats! But – what are you using to clean them? Shampoo? Bar soap? Fancy makeup brush cleaner? All wrong. Instead, use a little bit of to get out all the major makeup, then follow cleansing with a teaspoon size of your
Eyeshadow: Most women use either 1 shade or 5 (or more) shades on their lids. Know what the magic number is? Three. (*watch the video below on how to make 3 shades of eyeshadow work for you)
Makeup Storage: Where is your makeup right now? If you answered, “the bathroom”, you are making a major mistake. Steam from the shower and sink makes your makeup mildew. And grow bacteria. Instead, store in a “dressing room” type of space. If you must store it in the bathroom, keep the makeup in an air-tight container.
Mascara: Skipping mascara is a no-no. Its the quickest, easiest and (usually) most natural way to open up your eyes to make it appear you had 8 hours of sleep the night before! Tip: when you apply mascara, curl your lashes (if you want) BEFORE applying mascara. Otherwise you will be breaking off your little lashes. And no mascara on the bottom lashes because it typically flakes off leaving you with the look of dark circles under your eyes. Yikes.
Blush Color: Try this Trick: pinch your cheeks. Take a selfie. Match that pinched cheek selfie color to a CREAM blush (better than a powder for a more natural look) when you are shopping for shades. That’s how you do it. Who knew?
What other makeup mistakes have you done – & what tips/tricks can you share in the comments?
These are really helpful tips. I would have never guessed to not store makeup in the bathroom. It makes a lot of sense though.
I’m glad I helped you! Yep, storing make-up in the bathroom is a huge no-no because of the bacteria.
Yay – I’m doing my eyeshadow right – three colors! I love the idea of cleaning brushes with waterproof eye makeup remover. I would never have thought of that trick. I do keep my makeup in the bathroom, but the makeup is zipped in a makeup bag and stashed in a drawer.
That’s awesome! I’m glad I gave you some ideas. I think that’s completely safe!
As with so many other things I think there’s more then one approach and that everyone can do things the way they want. I’m super happy using one color eye shadow stored in my bathroom.
It’s good to stick to whatever works best for you. I’m just all about sharing tips that could help. Thanks for dropping by!
I store mine in the bathroom and…eeeks…above the toliet! Well actually it’s in a cupboard above it but damn. I’m doing all of the things wrong. I actually do use shampoo to clean my brushes and never thought to use eye cleaner! That makes the most sense actually. These are so helpful!!
I’m glad I provided you with some really helpful tips that could change the way you handle your make-up! Thanks for the visit!
I’ll have to keep these tips in mind. I admit, I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but when I do, I’m probably doing it all wrong.
I hope my tips help you! You don’t really have to wear make-up all the time, these are great for keeping your make-up clean and safe until you use them again!
Love your tips. I was aware not to put my makeup in the bathroom and the rule of three with eye shadow, but I didn’t know you could use eye makeup remover to clean brushes. I usually use dish soap. Thanks!

Make up is something I have never learned how to apply to. It’s a hassle for me, I think I had only make up on when I got married lol. I had to hire somebody to do it since I dunno how.
That’s okay, make-up is not for everyone. But if you have a friend who loves make-up feel free to share my tips and tricks!
I have only ever done three eyeshadow colors so yeah for me. I have some brush cleaner so guess that was a waste of money. If I do nothing else I throw on some mascara.
I hope my tips help. I just really love sharing tips and tricks that we can all take advantage of.
Thank you for teaching me your ways in this post. I am one of those who do not use mascara, will think about getting myself some to open up my eyes more and definitely will work on applying 3 shades of eyeshadow now.
SO glad to help you out and I just love sharing tips and tricks that I learned from the pros! Thanks for the visit!

I am guilty of not wearing make-up. It is kinda time consuming and I’ve never cared to wear it except for special occasions. It is time for me to update my routine.

Totally cool right? Glad you got some tips from me!
These are all great tips! The pinch the cheeks is so smart. I’ll have to do that. I am making all sorts of makeup mistakes. I am bare minimum and under five minutes. But I have noticed the older I get that I need to do more.
Thank you so much! I’m glad to help out!

YAY! I actually know and follow all of these! I’m pretty much a makeup junkie – and many friends worked in the beauty industry in one form or another – so they passed on tips. When I was younger they’d come to my house and spot something and be like “no no no” and help me with makeup tips 😀
I love that you picked these 5 – especially the “storing makeup in the bathroom” part!
That is awesome! Glad to know a fellow make-up lover visiting my blog! You’re lucky to have them as friends!
3 Eye shadows??!?!!!? I need to go and find the video so I can watch what you mean?!!?
