Not sure if lip fillers are right for you?💋
Why did I get lip fillers? My tiny (aging) upper lip was disappearing from my face right before my eyes!
Lip fillers can be a SUBTLE way to enhance your lips. But there are some things you should know before taking the plunge. In the hands of a skilled, certified aesthetic injector, injections of lip fillers can reshape, augment and contour your lips. And lip fillers can add fullness and volume in subtle ways (or provide dramatic changes – if that’s what you’re going for) that alter the overall appearance of your face.
*I was gifted this dermal filler procedure from Refined Aesthetics, but all opinions are my own.

What are Lip Fillers?

👄You’ve probably heard about lip fillers, but do you know what they are? Lip fillers are injections that add volume to your lips to create instant results.
✔️a type of dermal filler— a synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) made from living cells.
✔️HA is a natural substance in your body (causes you to swell when injured or have an allergic reaction.)
What to Expect

👄We’ve all seen the before and after pictures of people who have had dermal lip fillers. But what’s it really like to get them?
Consultation: They’ll ask you about your goals and expectations, as well as your medical history and lifestyle factors (like smoking or drinking.) This is a crucial step because it helps your doctor determine which type of filler is best for your unique needs and determine how much filler you need.
Numbing: Lips are numbed up around the area where the filler will be injected.
Injecting: A small needle injects the dermal filler into the areas that need more volume or definition in order to achieve your desired look—usually above your top lip or below it—and then massaged into place to evenly settle into your skin tissue. Expect to feel some pressure as injection needles enter your lips and inject the dermal filler into them.
The process usually lasts between 20 – 30 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated, but the entire appointment usually lasts around one hour depending on how many areas need to be treated.
Post-injection Care and Recovery

👄You can’t expect to go in and come out with plump lips without any side effects.
The first thing to know is that your lips will be slightly swollen for a few days after your procedure. Swelling is normal and will gradually lessen. Apply an ice pack, if needed, sparingly to the treated area for 5-10 minutes at home following treatment. Icing too aggressively or with too cold an ice pack can damage the skin and even cause scarring.
After getting lip fillers, some minor bruising and soreness may occur as well. The good news is that this also will subside within a few days.
Dry lips are VERY common after having dermal filler injections, which means it’s important to keep them moisturized with a natural lip balm or Vaseline during recovery time.
How Long do Lip Fillers Last?

👄It’s a good question, and the answer is: it depends. The longevity of your lip filler injections depends on a number of factors, including;
✔️amount of product injected into your lips
✔️how much natural collagen and elastin you have to begin with
✔️type of filler used
✔️your age
✔️how well you take care of them after the procedure
Most dermal filler injections last from 9 to 12 months, though some will last longer. If you want to keep that perfect pout, consider getting another lip filler injection in 9-12 months. This will help you maintain your results.
