Jewelry designer Allie M. has established herself as one amazing talent! Our Cleveland hometown favorite girl not only creates gorgeous jewelry, but she is constantly creating innovative pieces in her line. My recent conversation with her highlighted her ideas, inspiration and future plans. Read on!
me: What inspired you to create your new (and super cute, by the way!) Symbolic Herb Collection?
Allie M: The collection all started with the mustard seed. A woman from the Medina Farmers Market asked me if I sold mustard seeds. I said “NO”. Then I started researching the mustard seed and thus finding out that all herbs had symbolic meaning. I acutally ended up using a jewelry technique that I learned and used when I first started doing jewelry five years ago, producing this line.
me: What part of the collection do you feel represents your style the most?
Allie M: You can always distinguish my designs from others. For this particular collection I use herbs, resin and various metals. My style is simple. The entire collection represents me. I like inspirational trinkets and all things tiny.
me: Lots of gorgeous jewelry out there… why do women need your pieces in their jewelry box?
Allie M: I think that women need my jewelry in their collection because it gives women something simple, unique, symbolic and custom to wear everyday….dressed up or dressed down.
me: We’re seeing a lot of hand-stamped pieces in jewelry today. You also include these types of pieces in your work. What makes yours stand out from the other hand-stamped pieces?
Allie M: My collection is different than other jewelry on the market. In todays market, we see so many hand-stamped discs and symbol charms. I wanted to separate myself from others and come up with something that was unique, but still along the line of what people are buying.
me: What specifically do you do to demonstrate your personal style and keep on trend?
Allie M: Using herbs and their meanings are almost a symbol in itself. When I sell to my customers I try to sell charms in three….to keep the charm necklace trinkety. For example: a herb charm, a hand-stamped disc and an accent charm. The charms lay nicely together using various size pieces.
me: What can we anticipate to see next with Allie M Designs?
Allie M: Everyday I have new ideas formulating. I keep adding to the collection. When I first started this collection it looked a little different than it does now. I was producing the herbs only in clear resin but now I have the “colors” charms too. I am trying to grow the Mens line. Hopefully by the Fall I will more to offer to men beside cufflinks. I am also in production of a line very different than my current collections. Just wait and see!!
