Looking for a serious read about “how to get dressed?”…. I’ve got a book for you. If you are into reading to get your info. If you like pictures, skip this book.
How to Get Dressed is a costume designer’s secrets for making your clothes look, fit and feel amazing. Author Alison Freer has some really great sections in this book, such as “Why Movie Stars Look like Movie Stars” (yes, please do tell!) and “Dumb Fashion Rules that were Made For Breaking” (I agree with most of all… cute reminders!).
Sitting down with some coffee, I dug into this book. I mean… this type of book is right up my glam alley! But… as I turned page after page after page I noticed something missing. PICTURES! Not one picture of a real outfit to showcase your ideas. Barely a sketch to illustrate her information. This IS a fashion book, right? What am I missing here. There should be PICTURES. AM I wrong?
But besides that (pretty major) flaw… there is some GREAT advice in the book and GREAT tips to help you get better organized with your clothes and your closet.
One little gem of outfit knowledge is to use hangers for more than just clothes… such as using them to hang jewelry, scarves or stockings. Great tip! However, I have an issue with her believing that leggings are pants. Nope. They’re not. Sorry, Alison.
She DOES provide real-world advice about everything style-related, including:
• Making every garment you own fit better
• Mastering closet organization
• The undergarments you actually need
• The scoop on tailors and which alterations are worth it
• Shopping thrift and vintage like a rock star
Need a helping hand getting your outfit together? Interested in purchasing How to Get Dressed? OK with not having a ton of images/pictures?
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review but all opinions are my own.
