Alarm goes off. Interrupts your peaceful REM sleep cycle. From under your cozy comforter. Maybe with a cuddly pet snuggled beside you. The Monday motivation to get moving – not happening. And – Daylight Savings? Ugh. If the idea of blow-drying your hair, flat-ironing or even just putting on some simple lip gloss in this morning routine feels like completing a marathon, the solution is simple. Style a braid. The easiest-no-brainer-full-proof way to look on trend, without even trying.
Truth be told, I’ve never been a girl that wears her hair up. Not big into pony tails or clips or half up/half down… basically I wear my hair down. Always. And this has been a pattern since I was a child. My mother would try desperately to put in a cute, little pink barrette into my baby hair, for me to pull that clip out-of-my-hair in a matter of minutes. Apparently even at a very young age I had strong opinions about how to style my hair.
However, lately I have been ALL about braids. Love how they add style to ones look without it being a major updo. And love how simple they are to do.
Braids are an awesome option when you’re trying to cover any hair re-growth in-between color. Those days when you’d LOVE to wear a stylish baseball hat to work, but that #DressCode is killin’ that plan. So – when you are in a serious pinch because your hair stylist is booked for a million years and you need HAIR COLOR HELP now… what about hair color at home? Have you ever tried it? If you’re doing hair color at home – use one that is professional, high quality, easy to use and gives you fabulous color. If you’re blonde, the Schwarzkopf Color Ultime Iconic Blondes Hair Coloring Kit, 10.1 Light Blonde is perfection! So many shades available to best match your hair color, the color you get matches the hair color photo on the box, and the shine is gorgeous! Where does this hair color product exist? You can pick up Schwarzkopf Color Ultime at Walmart…
Once you see how easy it is to get that color you want to your hair, and are doing a happy dance with the shine – you can refocus back on braids! The braid I wear the most – and the one that I get the most compliments on – is a simple dutch braid. A dutch braid is just like the regular braid, except that its braided under instead of over.
Finally, secure with a hair elastic (at the end) and pin back the loose braid parts with bobby pins to secure your braid against your head. Keeps it in place for a long time. Tip: use bobby pins that match your hair color. Spritz with hair spray. Done.
And if you REALLY want to MIX-it-UP… (carefully) spray on some temporary hair color to 1 or 2 of your 3 sections of your braid at STEP 1 in the braiding process before starting your braid. Then braid as usual… and celebrate the colorful creation!
Braids have gone from basic to beyond… an easy way to be stylish with your hair.
What’s your favorite style of braid?
I have always stunk at braiding my own hair, so thanks for the tutorial. I can braid anyone else’s hair – just not mine….until now.
I’ve always had long hair but can never figure out how to do those awesome braids! I love this one! I can’t wait to try it!
It certainly has been a long time since I have styled a braid in my hair. I should give it a try again to freshen up my luck. As far as dying your hair I haven’t tried that in over 20 years, at this point I’m just gonna let my hair now actually turn gray as I age.
This is super pretty. And, wow, that is an amazing blonde from a box! I always expect box dye to do something bad to my hair.
your hair looks great! I have always been terrible at braiding hair. Now my daughter keeps asking me to braid hers so I need to learn.
I don’t wear braids very often in my hair, but this post reminds me how cute they can look. I will use your tips when I style my daughter’s hair.
I have to start by saying that your cat is so stunningly beautiful that she/he’s distracting! 🙂 I highly doubt my braid will look as beautiful as yours did, but I’ll give the “under” instead of “over” technique a try. I usually end up with random layers sticking out :/
I love the icy blonde tone it really brings out your eyes. I am hopeless at hair, I would love to learn how to braid, my hair always looks messy!
I wish I could do more braids. My hair is so thin I think it looks weird. Jealous of your gorgeous locks. I did extensions for my wedding and wish I could have them in permanently.
Love your hair and the little braid, might try one myself today, I love braids! Only last week I went for brunette to blonde for the first time ever and it’s so so strange! It’s just a step towards a full on grey which I will be putting on tomorrow thing, just need to do another round of bleach tonight and tadaaah (hopefully!). xx
I love these braiding styles! I love how effortless they look! Great hairstyles for spring! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this hair tutorial. I don’t really do much with my hair except complain about it and put it up in a pony tail. You got lovely hair and you yourself look lovely. xx
I love braids and I can do them but not on myself. I should try this one. I’m trying to get more comfortable with my hair down ( I always have it up), and maybe this braid will help me transition.
Love this!! The color you used on your hair at home turned out lovely. I am really into braids lately too and I love how the dutch braid can make your hair look so full.
Very cute styling braid tutorial! I love the pink highlights! So chic! I often braid my hair whenever I go to the gym or do a relaxing errand.
I am loving the pink highlight! I need to give this braid tutorial a try on my daughter’s hair. I can never do my own hair!
Your hair looks gorgeous; I love the pink highlight! And I’m saving this braid tutorial for future use when my daughter’s hair is longer.

braids are so diverse and they are great in a pinch too to make it look like you’ve put in more effort than you have! (also unrelated your cat is the cutest!!)
You have beautiful hair and I love the braids! I am going to try this on my daughter’s hair, she will LOVE it!! 🙂
I come from an ethics background so my hair is curly. It won’t withstand a regular braid yours. I love how your hair came out with that dye. I’ve never dared to dye my hair. I’ve always been petrified on how the color would actually look on me.
You really have a lovely hair. Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial on braiding your hair easily. This is very informative.
What a cute braid! Your hair looks gorgeous here! It looks so healthy and shiney. The color is great!
I used to braid my hair several years ago, but I haven’t done it in forever. I have probably forgotten how to do it. Thanks for the reminder!
I love this! I was just admiring a woman’s braid yesterday. I’m not much of a braider myself so thank you for including the good pics!
Omg just loving the braid!!!! I play with my daughters hair all the time so I will have to try this in her hair!! I bet she will look so fabulous!
I love braids! I usually always have a braid in my hair and I’d love to learn some new styles!
I love braids!!!! We did a 5-minute hairstyle post last fall, because let’s face it. With a little one, I don’t have tons of time to work on my hair, and I’m so excited to add this one to my favorites list!!!! There are so many fun ways to do a dutch braid — I actually braided my 2-year-old’s hair this morning in a dutch braid, and she kept running around telling everyone how pretty she was, lol. Thanks for showing the up close and sharing your tutorial!
I cut my hair over a year ago and it is just getting long enough for braids again. This style looks so pretty on you and I love your color! I’ll definitely try this braid!
Braids are always fun and can be played up or down. I always love them in my hair especially during the Summer and Spring just so whimsical 🙂
Wow, super cute. I’ve always wondered how people do the beautiful little braid. My little girl will love to sport this on! Love the DIY steps!!
I definitely need to practice my braiding skills. I love the dutch braid, and I can’t wait to try it on my daughter. I also just showed her the pink temporary dye. That looked so pretty, and we’re definitely going to try it!
