True story. I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in grad school. The first taste of coffee at a quaint, local coffee shop with some flavorful mocha in my caffeinated mixture made it oh…so….sweet. I was hooked.
Bad for us?
Are you an adult? Then the answer is no. Coffee is NOT bad for us. (disclaimer… if you are under the age of 18 back away from the coffee. I repeat, please back away.) Yet, I overhear snippets from news reports, friends, or magazines saying very mean things about coffee. No bueno. Harmful. Drink tea instead. Sorry tea drinkers, but I’m a coffee chick.
Here’s why I love coffee and you should too…
1. Burn it! Caffeine can boost your metabolic rate by as much as 11%! That means that it can increase your fat burning.
2. Work it! Drinking a cup of coffee an hour before working out will increase your performance. Why is this? Because caffeine increases Epinephrine levels in your blood and this is what boosts your workout!
3. Boost it! Coffee is loaded with a few serious nutrients, such as Niacin, Riboflavin, Manganese, Pantothenic Acid, Potassium, and Magnesium which all are rock stars for your body.
4. Lower it! Did you know that you have a lesser chance of getting Type 2 Diabetes just by drinking coffee? You have a 23-50% LOWER risk of getting this disease just by enjoying that cup-O-joe in the morning.
5. Increase it! Increase that smile! People who drink 4 or more cups a day are shown to be happier.
Drink It!
It’s coffee-o’clock! Be smart about the amount of coffee you drink. Try to skip those mocha-latte-frappa-chocolate mixtures. Save those for special times. Best bet? Drink black coffee and add healthy options if needed, such as skim milk or Stevia.
What is your FAVORITE coffee drink and where do you love to go out and get it?
Drink of Choice: grande soy latte from “The Bucks” (Starbucks). Love Love Love!!!
I will need to try that one! 🙂
I love a Starbucks skinny cappuccino with a drop of sugar free syrup. I’m a total sucker for a social coffee, I take my children to the coffee shop at least once a week…they have milkshakes I must add. It’s a gorgeous comforting treat for me. Your post has brought on a craving 🙂 x
Love the idea of a drop of sugar free syrup!
I’m a simple coffee gal, Hazelnut with cream is my go to. BUT, if I’m feeling fancy, I go for a non-fat flat white from the ‘bucks. Sadly, i started drinking coffee with my milk and sugar and a seriously young age (maybe 10) and have been hooked ever since… although, I’ve ousted the sugar and only use a smidge of cream now. 🙂
Oooooh… I need to try that Flat White… its been on my “To Do” list for weeks!
it’s DELICIOUS!!! OMG! I fell in love right away, and it replaced my Oprah Chai!
I HEART COFFEE!!!! I have a slight addiction to adding creamer, but I’ve added stevia and coconut oil to it, almond milk with stevia, and more! It’s a great drink, I don’t care what anyone says! The love affair between me and my Caffeinated goddess in a cup will never cease! <3 haha! Great post! Great facts! Cheers *clinks coffee cup into yours*
Coconut oil? I have never heard of that mixture but am super curious!! Cheers!
This post just warms my coffee loving heart, Karen! 🙂 I usually go for a skim latte at Starbucks and the size depends on how much sleep I missed from the night before! I keep meaning to try the Flat White, but I keep forgetting (probably because when I go into Starbucks, I’m caffeine deprived, so my brain isn’t really functioning, lol). At home, though, I LOVE my Nespresso with foamer and I do a mix of skim milk and unsweetened cashew milk (1/2 cup of each) for the foamed milk portion. I recently read about a coffee that has been enhanced that actually helps you sleep!!! I need to note that so I can give it a try. I can’t drink coffee after about 2:00pm or it messes with my ability to fall asleep (and I already have enough trouble with that!). Fun post!
aw…thanks! Love those skim lattes, too! I have a Keurig at home, but have heard fab things about the Nespresso! And a coffee that helps you sleep? I need.
I didn’t know any of that! I’ve never bought into the idea that coffee is bad for us but it’s awesome that coffee has those health benefits!
