On the road/bags packed/tickets in hand/check-check-check. Seeking a vacation. But Hmmmm. Maybe not. Let’s stay home. Stay in town. Get cozy. Fluff up your pillows, pour an extra cup of freshly-pressed coffee, and take it all in. Locally. And if you live in Cleveland, I’m sharing a few favorite ways to create a perfect stay-cation.
Sometimes just a break from your routine is the VERY thing that you need.
Be a Townie:
It’s bad manners to keep cutey little towns waiting for your visit. One of my favorite ways to spend a day in Cleveland is walking around Chagrin Falls, Ohio. From the Popcorn Shop to the boutiques to art galleries… many opportunities to maximize the day. Grab an ice-cream cone (#obvi: calories don’t count on a staycation), find your inner zen at the falls and stay for a dinner in town. Or – right around the corner is Gates Mills – perfect for walks along old bridges and being in the mix of gorgeous woodsy views along the Chagrin River!
Culturati:
Culture, art. Ok… Choose from the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Botanical Gardens, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center … places to enhance your cultural views of the world. #Flutterbye: Can’t beat the butterflies flying freely around at the Botanical Gardens. Oh, <swoon> – the art museum’s atrium is beyond.
Straight Outta Cleveland:
Every-day-is-a-chance-to-explore. Believe it – especially in #Believeland, Ohio. #LetsGoCAVS! Oodles of events in the C-L-E, but a definite MUST is the CLE Flea. Once a month, local artisans, chefs, food trucks, vendors, talented folks and more gather. It’s THE place to see and be seen. #Obsessed
And if you can get a High-5 from the legendary Chef Jonathon Sawyer (Greenhouse Tavern, Trentina, and like a million other things…), well… that just tops it all off! #ThisIsCLE
Cardio:
Yes, shopping is my cardio, but I also like to mix it up once in a while. Bowling at the Corner Alley on East 4th Street is da bomb dot com! And look – pink bowling balls. I mean… they get me. #MatchesMyLillyPulitzer
Hand Me a Fork:
Nothing brings people together like good food! Cleveland is a FOODIE town. Chef Sawyer, Chef Symon, Chef Katz – just to name a fab few. Cleveland will always deliver something delicious to dine on!
East 4th. All appealing options – including the Greenhouse Tavern, Lola Bistro, House of Blues and more. Cheers to good food, good people, good times.
Or… stay in Cleveland (but venture to the border of Shaker Heights) to dine at Fire Food and Drink. Fire = first choice place for brunch (note: homemade cinnamon rolls. #HeavenOnEarth)

Hi Karen!! Where did you get the graphic print pants from?
Just linked some items to shop… so although these exact ones are sold out, I found almost identical for you! Enjoy and thanks for stopping by! 🙂
I have never been to Ohio, but it is so close to Wisconsin I really should! Also, where did you get the pants that are in your bottom photo? NEED!!!!!
Hi Rachel – Just linked almost identical pants that I’m wearing in the post (at the bottom) because these exact ones are sold out.
There’s nothing wrong with a staycation. Sometimes the greatest gems are right in your backyard.
I like the idea of exploring our own town. We’ll see a lot more than we think. I did the tour in my town last week and it surprised me that there’re many great things I could actually see and do in my town. Cleveland looks as wonderful city, and I take a note from this post what to see and do in Cleveland, especially about the CLE Flea.
I actually broke away from routine and went away for the weekend with my husband this past week. It was a great way for us to connect and recharge.
You had a super stylish stay-cation! I never knew there were all those things to do in Cleveland. Looks like a great place to visit. That atrium is beautiful!
What a fun staycation. It is fun playing tourist in your own city.
Cleveland looks and sounds amazing. I would love to go someday. and I love the idea of a stay-cation. I always say I would love to do that here in Utah but ai haven’t had the chance yet!
I love exploring my town and the surrounding areas – I’ve been using “Discover and Go” tickets this summer that are offered by my local library, and it’s been a great adventure so far.
I would love to go to the Cle Flea. My daughter and I love staycations. It’s a fun way to explore the city we live in and do different things.
Wow, Karen you make Cleveland look good! I need to visit now and gosh you are a glam rockstar… love your accessories. Thanks for the details and a awesome read!
Staycations are the best! Shopping is my cardio too. Can’t go wrong with that!
I’ve never been to Cleveland and this makes me want to visit. I agree – Staycations are the best. So relaxing and refreshing.
I think stay-cations are my favorite. Mainly because I don’t have to pack up three kids to go anywhere – plus my own bed. I love to explore fun things in my town. It looks like you have tons of stuff to keep you busy!
I absolutely love visiting new places in town! We just moved to Denver so it is all about exploring at the moment!
It looks like there are lots of wonderful things to do around Cleveland. I would love to take a trip someday.
I live in WNY, about 3 hours from Cleveland so we try to visit a few times a year! Cleveland definitely has fabulous things to do compared to where I am in NY lol
Karen, your tips are awesome for a staycation anywhere. I’m glad you enjoyed your break away from the norm! And I’m sure an NBA championship didn’t hurt either. 🙂
Staycations are the best! I have never been to the Cleveland area, but wow there is a lot of cool things to do!
Sometimes a staycation is good for the soul. Good food and culture means that Cleveland is a prime spot.
I love staycations! I’ve never been to Cleveland before but now I think it’s a must. So much fun!
Staycations can be the best kind! I have never been to Cleveland but it looks awesome.
We have done a staycation in our area before and it was so much fun! Sometimes exploring your own backyard is just as awesome as going far away.
Staycation are usually the best. I usually need a vacation from the vacation, and your outfits are so cute and perfect!
Looks like a great place to spend a day.
