Truth be told, I’ve never been a girl that wears her hair up. Not big into pony tails or clips or half up/half down… basically I wear my hair down. Always. And this has been a pattern since I was a baby. My mother would try desperately to put in a cute, little pink barrette into my baby hair, for me to just slowly pull that clip out-of-my-hair in a matter of minutes. Apparently even at a very young age I had strong opinions about how to style my hair.
However, lately I have been ALL about braids. Love how they add that bit of style to ones look without it being a major updo.
The braid I wear the most – and the one that I get the most compliments on – is a simple dutch braid. A dutch braid is just like the regular braid, except that its braided under instead of over.
To make your braid look BIG and thick, all you do is complete a dutch braid and then pull each braid out from the outside areas of each braid. Secure with an elastic and pin back with a bobby pin. I also suggest using bobby pins to secure your actual braid against your head. Keeps it in place better and for a longer time. Would you believe that I actually slept on this braid and rocked in for 2 days? I did.
I’d love to take credit for doing this braid myself, but actually my fabulous Cleveland stylist, Ashley, did it for me. She is SO talented with hair and can do about a dozen different variations on braids. If you’re in Cleveland, come visit her here.
DEAL TIME:
You will recognize Ashley from being on Fox 8 News and from styling the hair of our Cleveland Cavs cheerleaders! BONUS…there is a GROUPON (get that quick!) for her here. Or mention special code “GlamKaren” to Ashley and get a blow-out WITH braid for only $25!
Braids have gone from basic to beyond…it’s an easy way to style your hair (without it being a serious updo sitch) that will get you oodles of compliments.
I received complimentary hair styling from Salon Lofts in exchange for this review but all opinions are my own.
I wish I could braid! I can do one simple one and that’s it. Yours looks fab!
This one is actually pretty easy… you should try it! I am obsessed with it!! 🙂
I love this look!!! I just got my hair trimmed and can’t put my hair up, so I may try this to add a little flair to my do.
Totally try it – its such a cute look, I think! 🙂
I am loving braids lately. I cannot even do this, but love the look of it. I need to learn before my baby girl has loads of hair. But she too will not keep a barrette in of long.
Try it out on your girl first… then see if you can master it on your own hair! Once you do it a few times it gets easier!
I tried braiding my hair and that’s definitely not going to happen! I always need someone else to do it for me! haha. This looks great tho!! <3

I hear ya – I can do one on my head, but the one that my stylist does always looks a million times better!

I’m growing my hair out right now, just so I can do braids like this! Super cute. 🙂

Yay – try it out! You can totally master it – just practice a few times!
Wish I could braid my hair. It’s long enough I just don’t have the patience, and if I do, they always come out very uneven. Love your braid though, sooooo cute!
This one is pretty simple. A basic braid but done underneath. Try it… you might surprise yourself!
I love this braid! I can never get mine to look good enough…
I know what you mean – if you really love it, have your stylist do it for you!

I saw this braid over the weekend and was in love. I wish I knew how to properly braid my hair because this is such a fun cool look, but I am so incapable when it comes to my hair it’s UNREAL! You look absolutely lovely and I need Ashley to braid mine 😉 xx, adaatude.com
I’ll do a tutorial braid post soon – so you can totally rock it!
Loving braids!!! They are so versatile and easy especially on those crazy hair days. Cute blog girlfriend 🙂

Thanks, Kaylah!! I appreciate that! I’m really loving braids, so thanks for the comment!
Love your braids lady! They are fab!!!!
PS I used to coach a girl who is currently a Cav Girl!
Sportsanista
Wow – thats so cool that you coached a Cavs girl!! Love it!
I have waist-length, stick-straight hair. Braiding is honestly the only way I feel I can wear a hairstyle that looks dressed up without it being too complicated. I was forced to learn to braid on my own fairly young, so Dutch and French braids (and 4-parters) are very common. Easy, pretty, and they never go out of style.
Yours is fabulous… would love to see it doubled on the other side to give you an instant headband. 🙂

Hey Melissa – thanks for the comment! I am so loving braids and wish I was more of a master at it, but I am trying! I might just try out that braid “headband” idea one time! 😉
I can NOT braid my own hair. This is super cute and looks great on you, lady!
Molly | Hey There Sunshine
You totally need to give it another try, Molly! You might actually be able to do something simple and boho-chic!
I love this braid!!! Are you doing a tutorial for it?
liz jo @ sundays with sophie
Yes – coming soon! 🙂
LOVE the style! I have long hair but you’ve inspired me to want to try a braid! 😀
Yay! Try out a braid! They are so cute and loving the boho vibe from them!
I couldn’t come up with a decent braid if my life would depend on it! No matter how many times I try and practice (on me or my daughter) it is always on epic fail!
haha – you’re so funny, Victoria! You should just have your stylist do one on you – then you can rock it! 😉
You are rocking that braid my dear!!!
Thanks, Jessica!! muah!
This braid has become your signature look, I need some major lessons on braiding my own hair!

Loving this braid – so I will totally keep rocking this signature look! Thanks so much, Brooke!
Your braids are always perfection! I have watched dozens of youtube videos and I still can’t perfect them so I have kinda given up! haha
XO,
Emily

Thanks so much, Emily! I think if you stick to a basic braid to start (like a dutch braid) that you can build up from there. 🙂
I love this! Braids are always perfect! I’m great with braiding other peoples hair but when it comes to mine I can only manage a side braid like this, I seriously don’t know how people french braid their own hair straight back!
xo
Style is Everything
Thank, Taylor! Braiding is super tricky and definitely easier if someone else does them. I love when my stylist Ashley does them on my hair. She always makes them look amazing!!
I LOVE your braids and have enjoyed your various styles of them throughout the summer. Such a cute look…fun & playful!
Yay – thanks so much, Vicky! I am kinda really into these braids lately!! 🙂
I like how you braided your hair! I want to try this on my girl’s hair.
Totally try it out on your girl’s hair… then do one on your own hair! Even if its messy, that’s ok because it gives it that boho vibe!
Your hair always looks to good in braids! I wish I could dutch braid!
